Whistling gypsy, was a project that started with Hlynur and his sister Esther Jökulsdóttir, in her livingroom, in the spring of 2007. Hlynur Jökulsson is a musician, singer and songwriter who had a lot of songs that fitted well in the project. Their brother Hlöðver Jökulsson and Jón K. Ingólfsson joined the project shortly after.
The project started with only the four, but after weeks of rehearsing and 2 successful concerts the project added guest musicians like Tómas Ragnarsson, Jón Sigurðsson, Helgi Egilsson, Rafn Emilsson, Björgvin Ploder, Jeanette Jensdatter and Ólafur Þ. Kristjánsson.
In the spring 2009, after a successful concert in the bar Cafe Rosenberg, we went to another bar to celebrate. There by coincident we met a mixing engeneer Garðar Þór Eiðsson. He was currently working in one of the best recording studios in Iceland, called Studio Syrland. Garðar had some free times in the studio that he generously gave to us. The only catch of the free studiotimes was that we had to record everything at nighttime. The album Letters and tattletales would never exist if Garðar Þór Eiðsson havent step in and make his contribution, we are ever greatful!
Garðar also played the drums in some of the songs on the album. We also had help from Jónas Sigurðsson who did some drumtracks, Jón K. Ingólfsson contrabass and back vocals, Hilmar Sverrison accordion, Matthías Stefánsson violin, Ivar Berg sampled sound, Hlöðver B. Jökulsson mandolin, ukulele, bongo drum, back vocals, Esther Jökulsdóttir autoharp and vocals.
After 4 year of uncertainties, lack of money, moving and many more obstacles, the tracks was finally sent to Þórir Úlfarsson and with his great mastery and skills with both the mixing and mastering, the album Letters and tattletales came to live, and was published the 13’th of september 2013.
2017 was a good year for the project and they did many concerts in Iceland.
The project was so lucky to receive donation to record in the studio, Room313. The results, after 7 hours of recording session, were 2 songs. They were published couple of month after. The songs Road to end and Truthful way, is on every online streaming sites.
